Set specific brew temps and time, set the pre-wet lapse time, even takes into consideration your altitude (which affects water boiling temps). Comes with an auto start function so in those mornings that you are in a hurry, the awesome brew is ready to go.

If you use really hard tap water you will end up cleaning it on a regular basis (although you probably should anyways…)

Brews into a very nice air pot to keep the coffee hot for a good long time; keeps it away from those nasty heating elements that will burn your coffee. Very nice shower-head water dispenser, making sure to even extract your grinds. Comes with a re-usable metal filter, but we tend to prefer leaving it aside for a quality paper filter. (8-12 cup basket style)

What do we think?
Only good things! At first glance I was pretty sure it was a space craft of some sort; going to take right off our counter and orbit the moon for a bit. Upon closer inspection I found a brewer that will go toe to toe with any on the market. Innovative and fresh the Brazen will quickly find a warm place in your heart when it makes you stellar cup after stellar cup.

The Brazen will make one of the best cups around because it will really let you dial in your brew; water temp, pre-wet cycle and even extraction. These simple things will make one heck of a difference. One problem, how do you know what to set it for? Well it took us about 3 pots of coffee to dial it in, now it couldn’t be easier. We recommend doing a slightly coarser grind for a drip brew (22-24 on our Baratza), brew temp of 204 with a pre-wet cycle of a minute ten. I am so used to a fine grind with drip brew to achieve the strength I need in my cup, wanted to bring that mentality to the Brazen and got many over extracted cups of coffee, amazing what a brewer can do when the water is actually around 200 degrees and held there for the entire brew cycle. You can do a finer grind but make sure to drop you temps to 194-198.

The Brazen uses a top load water boiler (accurate to the degree) and a gravity feed down to the grounds losing barely any temp while doing so. I would put it in the 5 minute range for the water to get up to temp where it well then dump a little bit on water on the grounds and enter the pre-wet cycle (to be determined by you). If using fresh coffee, make sure to set it for a minute plus, stale coffee can be 30 seconds plus (you all better be using fresh coffee!). It will then finish the brew when the pre-wet time has elapsed. All in all, taking around 10-12 minutes from start to finish.

Decent cup of coffee. If anything, it’s a bit overly complicated. You should also be aware of a complete lack of customer support after the warranty lapses. You can’t even pay to have repairs made; not available.

  2. Robert Jason

I have the previous version of this brewer…and couldn’t be happier. 4+ years of faithful service. Having the adjustable pre-infuse time AND brew temperature control is outstanding. Being at 800 feet above sea level, being able to customize this on the Brazen guarantees perfect water temperature. The coffee quality approaches Hario/Kalita standards…IF you have proper technique for pour-over coffee. A pound of green on top? Excellent. You will love this brewer…it is advanced science, SCA certified.

My wife and I just bought this maker and love it! Following the initial set-up was easy. After playing with the coarseness of the grind and water temperature we are getting some excellent coffee. We now prefer this way of making our coffee over the others because of the simplicity and great flavor.
